Schedule Your Evaluation

Cavitations can be difficult to detect and may not show up on traditional imaging. If you have lingering symptoms, a complex dental history, or you simply want clarity about what is happening beneath the surface, we are here to help.

During your visit with our dentist in Post Falls, ID, we begin with advanced 3D cone beam imaging and a detailed evaluation to understand what is going on and what options make the most sense for you. If treatment is recommended, we will walk you through the process and what to expect during healing so you can make an informed decision.

“We don’t just treat symptoms. We diagnose the root issues and provide gentle and comprehensive treatments to help you transform your smile and your health.”

-Drs. Bryant & Taylor Zollinger

Advanced Technology for Healing Support

Along with 3D cone beam imaging, the practice uses supportive technology designed to help the body recover more comfortably. Patients may have access to red light therapy, ozone, and laser protocols as part of their care. Additional wellness services may include vitamin C IV therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and other recovery-focused options.

What Is a Cavitation?

A cavitation is an area in the jawbone where the gum tissue can appear healed on the surface, but the bone underneath did not fully heal. In some cases, this can leave behind infection or diseased tissue within the bone.

Cavitations are often not painful, which means someone can have one and not realize it. That is why advanced imaging matters. Traditional dental X-rays can miss issues in the jawbone, so we use 3D cone beam imaging to get a clearer picture.

Every exam includes a 3D cone beam scan so we can evaluate jawbone health in detail and identify concerns that may not be visible otherwise.

Why Cavitations Matter

Cavitations can be more than a localized jaw issue. Because they may involve chronic infection or inflammation in the bone, some patients worry about how that burden could affect overall wellness. In fact, cavitations have been associated with systemic issues such as autoimmune conditions, fatigue, skin disorders, and neurological symptoms.

That is why we start with 3D cone beam imaging at every exam. Clear diagnosis helps us determine whether a cavitation is present, how extensive it is, and what treatment options make the most sense for you. Cavitation therapy is just one way Dr. Bryant Zollinger and Dr. Taylor Zollinger go the extra mile to ensure your complete and optimal health, with treatment extending far beyond your smile.

Cavitation Treatment Step by Step

3D Scan and Detailed Mapping

Every new patient receives a 3D cone beam scan to confirm whether a cavitation is present. The team also maps the area with software to understand the exact location and size of the lesion before treatment.

Access the Cavitation Site

On the day of treatment, the doctor exposes the affected bone to access the cavitation.

Remove Diseased Tissue and Debris

The site is thoroughly cleaned. Debris is removed mechanically, then the bone is scrubbed using ultrasonic technology to help eliminate remaining infected material.

Confirm Only Healthy, Vital Bone Remains

A key part of the Ghanaati protocol is verifying that the edges of the site are healthy and viable. The doctor checks visually for vital bone that bleeds and avoids leaving any dead or “styrofoam” bone behind. When appropriate, a meridian test may also be performed as an additional check.

Disinfect and Support the Healing Environment

After the area is cleaned, the site is treated with ozone and laser support to help create a cleaner environment for healing.

Place a Biocompatible Bone Graft

A biocompatible graft is placed when appropriate. This may include your own bone or a mineral-based graft designed to avoid foreign DNA. The graft is mixed with your own blood to support healing factors and compatibility.

Cover With PRF and Close the Site

A PRF “bandage” made from your blood is placed over the area, then the site is sutured closed to protect it while it heals.

Recovery and Healing Support

Most patients experience mild discomfort and are typically back to normal in about 4–5 days. Support options may include red light therapy, StellaLife mouth rinse, and pre/post visits for vitamin C IV therapy and other treatments designed to ensure your comfort.

Microbiome Testing and Biopsy

If needed, we can recommend microbiome testing or a biopsy to better understand contributing factors and support long-term prevention.

Aftercare and Healing Support

After cavitation treatment in Post Falls, your care will be designed to protect the surgical site and support smooth healing. You will receive personalized instructions based on your procedure and health history.

Eat Normally

There are no strict diet restrictions. You can eat normally, but just be mindful of the site while chewing and try to avoid irritating the area as it heals.

Keep the Area Clean

Follow the team’s instructions for oral hygiene and rinsing. If recommended, use StellaLife mouth rinse as directed to support a clean healing environment.

Support Healing at Home

Use any recommended tools, such as at-home red light support, to help with comfort and recovery.

Optional Recovery Support

Some patients choose additional support around their procedure, such as pre- and post-visit vitamin C IV therapy and other comfort-focused services.
